Events Being Held in Orihuela Costa

The programme got off to an energetic start on Saturday as the fit and the fun-loving flocked to Playa Flamenca for the first event in the summer calendar, the Aerobics Marathon. Hundreds of people took part and even more turned out to watch at this wonderful and under-used location. Local businesses, such as the News Box stayed open late to supply the needs of the crowd and local bars and restaurants such as Surfers Bar and Sunny Jim’s made the most of the passing trade. All were delighted that the Town Hall is now using the new promenade and amphitheatre for public events.
The aerobic-a-thon began with performances from the Kingsbury Academy of Dance, including a treat from Ruth Kingsbury herself, who performed a mixed hip hop and tap routine. However, it was the pupils who stole the show and wowed the audience with some truly spectacular moves and it was the guys that really strutted their stuff and got the crowd buzzing.
Once everyone was in the mood, the staff at Maxx Gym began the first of four exercise sessions with a fifty-minute aerobic class – and everyone was grateful for the costal breeze. This was followed by a tenminute display and further exercise sessions of jazz aerobics, Latin aerobics and body combat, lasting for those who had the stamina, until 10.30pm.
There were gift-bags for the first 300 participants and an end-of-event raffle prize draw, with prizes valued at more than 1,700 euros. These included meals, drinks, gym memberships and hair and beauty makeovers.
The event was truly international with people of all ages, nationalities and cultures joining together in the names of health and fitness. The next events in the line up are: Spinning Marathon: Saturday, 4 July, Playa Flamenca Beach Body & Mind: Saturday, 25 July, La Zenia Dance Convention: Wednesday, 8 August, Campoamor Fitness Day: Saturday, 22 August, Playa Flamenca Beach
