Thousands of British drive without adaquate car insurance?

As of about two years ago, a British resident in Spain can use his/her British driving licence BUT it is only valid if you have the Spanish medical (a 30 euro eye test).

If you don’t have the medical certificate to validate your UK driving licence and you have an accident, the insurance company it seems may not pay out (some apparently have refused to do so).

A copy of the Spanish Law is reproduced on Brian Deller’s website and couldn’t be clearer. I immediately obtained a medical certificate which is valid for five years.
