Guardamar del Segura is a 20 minute drive from Flamenca Beach, on the N332, and 35 kilometres south of Alicante. The small town of guardamar has around a population of 11,00 which increases during the tourist season. The beach at Guardamar has fine sand, lovely clear shallow waters and is famous for its sand dunes. The sand dunes have structured due to the estern winds that push up the sand inland from both the sea and the Segura river. There are pine trees and other plants in the dunes to stop the progress of the sands, as a result guardamar now celebrates ‘Tree Day’ which symbolises the importance of the pine tress for the younger generations.
